Our Green Story
At Stonehouse Court we are passionate and committed to reducing our carbon footprint and becoming a more sustainable business. From finding ways to reuse materials, growing our own veg to working with our community, looking after our vital wildlife and looking after the environment around us.
Our progress so far:
REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE
Our team are committed to reducing our waste materials, sorting, dividing and recycling daily. We are continuously looking at ways to reduce our landfill and working towards 90% of recycled materials.
Energy Use
We now use 100% renewable electric through our provider SSE Business Energy. Click here to see our Green certificate.
We have also replaced 95% of our lighting with LED lightbulb and changed to more efficient heating and kitchen equipment
Reducing our Carbon Footprint
Our gardener Rich has created a fabulous kitchen garden for our restaurant. Aiming at reducing our food miles and carbon footprint, we hope to produce 20% of our own veg. We are also working with more local suppliers.
We have teamed up with The Access Bike Project providing bike hire for our guests to explore the local area. The Access Bike Project train and mentor young people to recycle, fix and upcycle bikes. To find out more visit: www.accessbike.org,uk
We also have a wide range of walking and cycling maps to explore the local area without a car. We particularly love Cotswold Canals fabulous circular Canal Walk and Rail trail https://www.discoveringbritain.org/activities/south-west-england/walks/cotswold-canals.html
Conserving Water
We are currently saving up for a 10,000 litre water butt to help irrigate the 6 acres of grounds for all to enjoy during the summer.
We also encourage our guests to save water where possible and are rolling out low flow shower heads in our showers.
Preserving our Oceans
We are currently rolling out our new range of refillable Eco Boutique toiletries in all our guest bathrooms. The products are ethically produced, refillable and use fully recycled bottles ensuring that we minimise our plastic waste.
We also use our own compost in our gardens.
Embracing our nature and culture
Our staff families have been busy building a Bug hotel. We are really proud of creating a wonderful habitat for our bugs and helping to look after our bees in our wild garden. Pick up a leaflet at reception to find out how to make your own bug hotel.
We have also been working closely with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust & Cotswold Canals to fully embrace the natural environment and our fascinating industrial heritage.

Working with the community
We are currently working closely with a number of community projects to help promote life-long learning; embracing and supporting local social and environmental wellbeing.
Our ‘Pass on a clean scheme’, helps us conserve energy and water from cleaning a room whilst guests enjoy a free drink on us and we make a contribution to our community project fund. If you would like to apply to our community fund for local project funding, please e-mail info@stonehousecourt.co.uk.
